According to the Associated Press, Chicago rapper Kanye West will be starting a new tour inspired by his 2008 chart-topping album 808s & Heartbreak. With an expected kick-off in Europe, West will maneuver his way throughout the continent beginning in July, with a return to the states by fall. While the tour has no set dates as of yet, nor an official theme, West has stated that work with Spike Jonze (who directed West’s latest music video “See You In My Nightmares”) and The Jim Henson Company have been significant contributors behind the creation of this new tour.
Speaking on his 2008 “Glow in the Dark Tour,” Mr. West explained the thought process of changing an otherwise ordinary Hip Hop concert into a musical and visual spectacle for his 2007 release Graduation. “The last was done because I didn’t feel like doing a rap show, because of all I was going through in my life. All I felt like was playing with ‘Star Wars’ [toys] and being Luke Skywalker. So I figured you know, ‘I’ll do a rap show if I can just be like Luke Skywalker every night.’ And so I just wrote my own sci-fi and played in it.”
Now, with a whole new tour to plan, West intends to provide his fans with a show that shares continuity with his latest album. “[‘808s & Heartbreak’] subject matter was real life; the medium was melody. And the format was very similar to the way people would organize a fashion show, more so than an album. And I felt like this was my [fashion] season…I deliver my music more as a designer than a producer now.”
Just days after his in-house producer was allegedly robbed by men involved with Suge Knight [click to read], Akon took time to speak to MTV News on the matter.
"I just got in from overseas to do this U.N. [show], and all this news hit me at one time," said Akon. "He's actually a producer I signed recently. Even [Detail], I couldn't get in contact with him to get the full story. I'm trying to find out the story from him before I can put it out on record."
In February, Akon's manager was arrested for knocking out Knight at a party. Akon did not speak on that particular incident, and assured that matters between him and the music mogul have been civil.
"All I know, we always had peaceful conversations," said the singer regarding Suge. "I'm trying to figure out why it's escalating to this extent. We never had no problems. All I can do is the right thing. Everything always works itself out."
During the time of the robbery, Akon was at the U.N. with producer/composer Peter Buffet. The two men manage a website called IsThereSomethingICanDo.com, which promotes awarenss about human trafficking.
"The concept is how people take blood and turn it into gold," said Akon of the site.
“I can understand a kid [KiD CuDi] like that, who came into the game — he’s from Ohio, a small-town kid like myself — and within a matter of months, he went from being a person where, you know, like, ‘That kid’s got some pretty good talent,’ to, ‘Oh, my God, this is the next thing,’ ” Bun told us. “That could be pretty overwhelming for a kid that probably just wants to make good music. People are making him into a brand instantaneously, and that’s a lot of pressure to put on an individual. So I can completely understand someone being like, ‘You know what? I thought I was just going to be able to make music. This is turning into something wholly different.’
“One piece of advice I would give Cudi is to make sure he gets what he wants out of the situation, because there’s gonna be a lot of people who make sure they get what they want out of the situation,” he continued. “You gotta really know what it is you want before you step in. This game has a million directions it can pull you into, so if you come into it with no direction, then there’s no telling where you’ll end up. So you gotta make sure you come in with some kind of plan — just an outline, dude.”
And Bun isn’t just talking to Cudi here. He’s trying to talk to a whole bunch of “young, talented” cats like Asher Roth, B.o.B and Charles Hamilton, whom Bun said could all be capable of great things, so long as they learn not to believe the hype and take charge of their careers.
“The reality is, these magazines and media outlets have to sit back and designate something and bring people’s attention towards something, so being labeled ‘the next big thing’ or winning best new artist, you know, you’ve gotta be careful,” he said. “Because once you take somebody who’s probably humble within themselves and be like, ‘You know what, you’re the next big thing,’ sometimes that alters their perception of themselves, their perception of the direction they need to go down, or even hinder their path. Or sometimes it propels it. This whole game is a Catch-22, man. read the rest @ MTVNews.com

Rapper Memphis Bleek recently took time to discuss his departure from Roc-A-Fella distributor Def Jam .
"Jay's the kindest nigga that walk the face of this earth and everything ain't money," said Bleek in a video on HipHopBeef.com, rebutting rumors that Jay-Z didn't look after his artists. "Nigga gave everybody he knew that he came up with rhyming with opportunity, that's all you can ask for...You know Hov broke bread...I left Def Jam...I had options to put out another album on Def Jam but then I had a meeting with him and he made it real clear to me, 'Why do that, you got the opportunity right now to run your own company. I'ma get you the distribution deal for Get Low Records, you sign your artists, drop your albums under Get Low and I'ma still executive produce.'"
Bleek also spoke on Roc-A-Fella's initial breakup, saying that "I saw it coming...I ain't seen or speak to Beans in forever, I ain't seen the Gunz in forever...I definitely ain't seen or speak to Peedi Crakk."
As for his relationship with Dame Dash, "It was weird. Dame always was cool to me. He looked out for me as a youngin...He was a good dude. You know how they say - with money, it changes a lot of things. It changed Roc-A-Fella."
According to TMZ.com, Badu used Twitter to update fans that "Police just apprehended a stalker in front of my house. Stay tuned to details."
The singer said that the stalker, a woman, had been outside of her house numerous times, and that she had "several misc. items spread out in the grass. Blue shutters, a rabbit, a tucan and a sketch book."
The stalker was "pepper sprayed and cuffed" by officers, and the ensuing police report that Badu filled out apparently made the singer late for her performance.
"'We Are Lasers'...comes from some repressed high school outcast shit...blended amidst 'And He Gets The Girl' ambitions," Lupe tweeted over the weekend. Part 1: “Mighty D-Block”, “Ambitions As A Ridah”, “Made Ya Look Remix” (Nas), “Money, Power & Respect”, “Wild Out”, “I Get High” (Styles P), “So Fly Remix” (Slim), “U Make Me Wanna” (Mariah Carey.. awkward.), “Knock Yaself Out” (ft. Pharrell), “Can’t Stop Me”

The Smoking Section catches up with KiD CuDi & 88-Keys in the Austin streets during SXSW.
“You can’t ask for more excitement from a hip-hop perspective than two Eminem albums,” 50 said. “One is great. It’s a treat. But the second one is exciting.
“Actually, it was my idea for him to release two albums, because he had so much material over a time period,” Fif added. “The [second album] kind of feels like a sequel. They’re both written to one album topic almost, that it felt like part one and part two of the [same album]. They tie together.”
50 said he plans to duplicate Slim Shady’s game plan and put out two albums of his own within months of each other.
There is still no word on Dr. Dre’s Detox. The record has been hampered by several leaks of unfinished material from recording sessions with T.I.
