Joell Ortiz "Free Agent" Documentary [Trailer]
Brooklyn Bred MC Joell Ortiz has created a buzz for himself on the radio, the internet, and most importantly the streets. Introduced into the game as Quick, Joell's talent and hunger were apparent to anyone he came across. Armed with a relentless work ethic and incredible lyrical abilities, Joell rhymed his way through the industry and into the offices of Aftermath Records, where Dr. Dre signed the young Latino rapper and added him to the team. Due to an unfortunate lack of support from the label, Ortiz pushed for his release from Aftermath and has currently become hip-hop's most valuable Free Agent. After making the choice to team up with the filmmakers from The ICU, Joell looks to give his fans and followers an in depth look into not only who he is, but into his family, his music, and is career. Look out for this film at upcoming festivals this fall.

Pharrell Williams Interview at Art 40 Basel 2009 (Switzerland)
Pharrell and Takashi Murakami are exhibiting a project entitled “The Simple Things” at Art 40 Basel in Switzerland:
At Art 40 Basel, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin presented a 6-foot Takashi Murakami sculpture, made in collaboration with the U.S. record producer and designer Pharrell Williams. The object is titled The Simple Things. It features a glass-fiber, steel and acrylic head based on Murakami’s cartoon-inspired signature character Mr. Dob. In its mouth you find objects which are the essentials in Pharrell Williams’ everyday life: A can of Pepsi, a cup cake, a sneaker and bottle of Johnsons baby lotion. These objects are encrusted with 26′000 diamonds and gems.
In this interview with Ute Thon (Art Magazin), Pharrell Williams talks about how cooperation came about, the idea behind the sculpture, his interest in art and design, the artists and designers he admires, and his own design works. Art 40 Basel 2009, VIP Preview, June 9, 2009.

Lloyd Becomes The Latest Artist To Leave The Inc
Roughly a month after R&B singer Ashanti was let go from The Inc, formerly Murder Inc, another artist on the label is asking to be let go.
Singer Lloyd, who has been with The Inc for five years now, cites the need for more control and change as reasons for his departure from the slowly shrinking label.
“I’m ready for a change,” Lloyd explained in a press release. “There’s no bad blood. I just feel I need to take more control over my career and get a fresh start. Hopefully Irv can understand my position.”
Lloyd’s departure from The Inc probably comes as quite a shock to fans of the show Gotti’s Way 2 a show that revolves around the life of The Inc CEO Irv Gotti and his family but also features Lloyd as well as other artists such as Ja Rule and Vanessa Carlton.
“We find ourselves in limbo for the second time in three years,” Henry Lee, Lloyd’s manager said in a statement. “It’s frustrating to know that opportunities to advance Lloyd’s career are out there but we can’t exploit them due to our current situation. Even though Lloyd is appreciative of the opportunity that has been afforded him by The Inc, he feels it’s time for him to move on and seek opportunities that will allow him to build and enhance his brand.”
Lloyd notified fans that an announcement regarding his “label situation” would be made earlier this week via his Twitter page writing, “I’ve been meeting with my management team and my attorneys for the past 2 days. Expect an announcement today regarding my label situation…”
Currently Lloyd is working on his fourth album, his first three albums were released on The Inc.
Irv Gottihas yet to respond to this recent news surrounding Lloyd and The Inc.
The Roots Hold Next Album Until October
?uestlove's Twitter confirmed today that The Roots will be postponing the summer release of their 11th album until October. Reportedly titled How I Got Over, the album will be the Philadelphia Hip Hop band's third with Def Jam, following last year's Rising Down
The drummer, producer and deejay said, "The Roots will announce that WE are pushing back our 11th project How I Got Over (Def Jam/Universal) until Oct. It shall be worth the wait. I'd like to announce in a well thought out effort to give you people the best product possible---and to give Def Jam proper set up time."
In the busy year since, they have become the house band for Jimmy Fallon's latenight television program, still performing monthly New York jam sessions and spot dates. This last weekend, the group, including emcee Black Thought, backed Public Enemy [click to read], as the legendary Hip Hop group performed It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, their seminal 1989 album. The performance was in Philadelphia, in conjunction with the annual OkayPlayer picnic. The Antibalas also assisted with the brass and percussion, and Beanie Sigel and DJ Cash Money made a brief appearance during the sequential set.

Lauryn Hill Cancels All European Tour Dates
While we wait for Michael Jackson to back out of his summer tour, L Boogie continues to confuse and disappoint:
Festival organizers say hip-hop and R&B singer Lauryn Hill has canceled all tour dates in Europe this summer for health reasons.
Stockholm Jazz Festival spokeswoman Liisa Tolonen says the artist's agent informed the festival late Tuesday that all performances in Europe by the former Fugees singer have been canceled. This includes shows in Sweden, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, and Austria.
Tolonen said Wednesday the agent cited health reasons for the cancellation but declined to give more details.
The tour would have marked a comeback to stage by Hill who has kept a low public profile in recent years. She was the planned headline act for The Stockholm Jazz Festival, one of Sweden's biggest music events.
Let's hope she has no real illness....
Jay-Z Makes DJ Khaled Cry
Oh, let's not get it twisted. Venetian paint. Here's that Venetian. This ain't regular."
The Penguin shows off his We The Best Studios in the video above and during his interview with the 1515 Boys he also added his feelings on his mention in Hova's latest song:
Khaled was recently humbled by rap giant Jay-Z, when Hov shouted Khaled on the song "D.O.A." The mouthy DJ says he was stunned and left speechless by Jay's co-sign.
"To get a co-sign from a legend like that is big. He said my name, he said, 'We the best!' It brought a tear to my eye," Khaled said.
Ah! Who said Terror Squad and Jigga can't get along? We've come a long way baby. Ha!

Wyclef Jean And Nick Cannon Release “Mr. Autotune”
On the heels of the release of Jay-Z’s “Death Of Autotune” rapper/producer Wyclef Jean and Nick Cannon have released “Mr. Autotune”.
At a time where autotune seems to be becoming less popular, “Mr. Autotune” pokes fun of the current music craze.
In the song Wyclef sings, “I’m Mister Autotune/ If you sing off key/ For a small fee I can make you a celebrity…Then all you gotta do is pay me/ And I will turn this thing into a karaoke party you’ll be a superstar.”
And Nick Cannon adds more comic value to the parodiable song with adlibs like “I wanna make money” and “Do I need singing lessons?”
Although Wyclef has been working on other artist’s albums recently he has not released a studio album since Carnival Vol. II: Memoirs of an Immigrant which was released on December 4, 2007.
