Nas: "I Was A Hella Of A Husband & A Hell Of A Dad"

The latest news involving Nas’ situation with his ex-wife Kelis was deemed as nothing more than “funny s**t” by the rapper, who seemed to be taken aback by the public’s interest in his personal happenings.

Nas’ reaction comes days after the birth of his Knight and rumors surrounding his divorce from Kelis.

Although she filed for divorce in April, Kelis hinted to infidelity on the part of the Queensbridge lyricist with a June 4 post on Twitter, that blasted husbands who cheated on their wives.

Nas, who maintained he never cheated on Kelis, further touted his good standing in the relationship while admitting to some natural shortcomings as human.

“I heard that I was a cheater,” the rapper told Vancouver, Canada’s Georgia Straight newspaper. “It almost sounds like I was a bad husband. Not to say I was the greatest—I’m not perfect in anything I do—but I think I deserve a f***ing trophy. If I do say so myself, without sounding too cocky, I gotta say I was a hell of a husband and a hell of a dad.”

Despite his claims, Nas’ split from Kelis has turned into a costly affair.

According to the Associated Press, the rapper was ordered last week to pay $30,471 per-month in spousal support and $9,027 per-month in child support as well as $45,000 for Kelis’ attorney’s fees.

“It’s unfortunate when business is out there about your personal s**t, especially when you’re really not the guy to be having his s**t out there,” Nas said. “The sad thing is, you’ve got to get used to it. My skin is so thick that I probably need to write a book for people who are not ready for anything crazy.”

Musically, the rapper is gearing up for the fall release of Distant Relatives, his joint album with reggae superstar Damian Marley.

The duo is currently promoting the project while performing on this year’s Rock the Bells tour.

For Nas, the experience of working with Marley, generated a desire for more children of his own. As for tabloid reports generated by his personal drama, Nas remained upbeat while constantly adjusting to being under the microscope from observers.

“It’s funny that someone would even care about some Nasir Jones s**t,” he said. “I’m still that kid from the block at the end of the day.… So when I watch this s**t, it’s surreal. We get a good laugh off it and say, ‘Hey, they’re talking about me again and it’s some funny s**t.’”

Tupac Is Releasing Another Album???

Break out the sheer linen collars and the Alizé -- "Shakurspeare," a collection of Tupac Shakur's earliest known recordings, will see a digital release on Sept. 13, exactly 13 years to the day of the lionized rapper's death in Las Vegas. Masterminded by Darrin Keith Bastfield -- Born Busy Records' chief executive and partner with a 16-year-old Shakur in the company -- the album sheds light on the gangsta rapper's pre-Digital Underground days, when he rapped under the sobriquet "MC New York."

"I was there when Tupac heard himself for the first time rapping on a recording. As he sat in the cafeteria of the Baltimore School for the Arts, it was as if he couldn’t believe that he was listening to himself,” Bastfield told AllHipHop.com. “I want people to hear Tupac as a young artist in his very first recordings ever having fun, rapping about issues that concerned us and most importantly giving a cautionary and timely ‘Message of Peace’ in his own voice as if he was already a big rap star with a reputation to uphold.”

The project is Bastfield's second dedicated to the legacy of his fallen friend, following on the heels of his 2002 memoir, "Back in the Day: My Life and Times With Tupac Shakur." According to Bastfield, the "Shakurspeare" title stems from the thug life legend's original desire to be a Shakespearean thespian.

The vocals for "Shakurspeare" were originally recorded a cappella on cassette in 1988 and have since been digitally mastered and paired to contemporary beats crafted by Baltimore producers. Its cover will feature a Bastfield painting portraying Shakur as Shakespeare.

Though the 25-year-old rapper had yet to realize his th
eatrical aspirations when he was shot in 1996, it's safe to say that he would've made for a pretty awesome Julius Caesar.

Inspectah Deck Says Fuck Joe Budden & Raekwon Clarifies

Inspectah Deck emerges during Raekwon’s set at Rock The Bells to rally Wu fans in a communal “Fuck Joe Budden.” This continues a beef, which began with Budden incredulously questioning Method Man’s lyrical prowess after being ranked higher than Budden himself in a “Best Rapper Ever List” released online by Vibe Magazine. While Method Man neglected to respond to the insult, Inspectah Deck released a song “House Nigga” where he calls Joe Budden a “blog thug,” saying “They don’t respect you outside Jersey!” Joe Budden’s response: “While Inspectah Deck may be considered a legend for the one great verse he had in his 30 year career, it’s 2009.” Raekwon sits down with UGHH’s Van Stylez after the performance to discuss his roll in the continuing fued.

Chargers RB & My Dear Friend Curtis Brinkley Shot In Philadelphia

Chargers rookie RB Curtis Brinkley was shot outside of Philadelphia this morning and is in a local hospital, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

His condition isn't known, but a local TV station reported his wounds are not life-threatening.

The Inquirer reports Brinkley was in his car at an intersection when someone started firing a gun at him.

The Chargers signed Brinkley as an undrafted free agent this spring.

His shooting comes just six days after former NFL QB Steve McNair was shot in killed in what police say was a murder-suicide orchestrated by his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi.

Jay-Z Confirms Roc Nation Deals With Sony, Atlantic

As previously reported, Jay-Z has inked a distribution deal with Sony for his Roc Nation label, the Brooklyn-born rapper confirmed to Billboard last week.

"Sony is Roc Nation. That's where Roc Nation's going through," Jay-Z told Billboard.com on Friday (June 29).

As for the deal he recently signed with Atlantic, he clarifies that it is a one-off situation for his upcoming album, "Blueprint 3," slated for a September 11th release.

"That's pretty much just for this specific album. Roc Nation -- we're experts in marketing and making records. But we do distribution deals," he says. "On this one, we're working directly with the Atlantic staff, which is Julie [Greenwald], Lyor [Cohen], Kevin [Liles] and Kyse [Mike Kyser]. For the rest of the Roc Nation artists, we did a distribution deal with Sony."

Jay-Z also told Billboard he originally approached Def Jam with the same distribution deal idea four years ago, but was shut down. "You have to figure, this is like four years ago, and to them it was just like, 'Are you crazy? No! Make a song!'" he said. "To me it was like, I've sold companies for huge amounts of money. I'm an entrepreneur -- that's what I've been all my life. I can't just sit here and make records and not do anything else. Why wouldn't you want to do this with me? I felt under-utilized."

When his Def Jam contract was nearing expiration and he had one last album to release with the label (in this case, "Blueprint 3"), Jay-Z opted to buy himself out of the contract for a reportedly $5 million price tag.

In related news, Jay-Z, who performed during this year's BET Awards on Sunday (June 28) released the video to his "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-tune)" video after the show, as part of BET's post show. The clip features guest appearances from Lyor Cohen, head of Warner Music Group which houses Atlantic Records, basketball player Lebron James and actor Harvey Keitel.
